Xbase++ today and tomorrow. Especially
the plans of Alaska Software beyond Visual Xbase++ 2.0. Details
about future platform support as well as new technologies and how Xbase++
as a language will evolve. A lot of exciting stuff will be presented to
the attendees in this session. |

Database Technologies |
| top |
Xbase++ as a database application development
tool and language. This session is about the core of the product: Database
Technologies. Steffen will talk about how to reap the most out of the DataAccessChain
(DAC), DataType Mapping and the Dictionary support integrated into Xbase++.
He will also refer to Xbase++-specific data access concepts which
have been designed to increase database performance and to increase development
productivity. You will be able to identify performance bottlenecks in your
applications and you will also be given the knowledge to resolve them. A better
understanding of Network and Client/Server infrastructures gives you the
ability to identify network problems and/or to make the most out of database
server systems, such as Advantage Database Server or MS SQL for example.

ActiveX for the Power Developer |
| top |
Till Warweg, member of the Xbase++
User Interface Technologies Group, is going to demonstrate in great detail
how things work in the GUI department. For example, he will dive into the
event management and the user interface integration of ActiveX components
using Xbase++. Till is also going to hold a hands-on session,
which focuses on how to make use out of the WebBrowser control, on how to
integrate Windows Common Controls and on how to embed report design capabilities
in Xbase++. Having absorbed all the information of this session,
you ought to be able to utilize next to all of the visual ActiveX components
available on the market. |

Debugging and Code Analysis using Visual Xbase++ |
| top |
In this session, Till will show us all the insides
of the truely outstanding debugging capabilities of Visual Xbase++. You
will be guided on a step-by-step-basis into the world of breakpoints, conditional
breakpoints and programm execution logging. Variable inspection and customization
of variable output for the Object Inspector are also going to be taken a
look at. You will be able to make better use out of the VX debugger and
this way will be able to increase product quality and turn-around cycles
in your end-users' software development. |

Andreas Herdt, member of the Xbase++
Core Technology Team, will be giving a short introduction into
the ActiveX technology. In this presentation, you will be shown all the
bells and whistles required to utilize ActiveX effectively and efficiently.
MS Back-Office integration with MS-Word and MS-Excel is, among other subject
matters, covered during the practical part of Andreas' session.
Each attendee will get a good understanding of the ActiveX technology and
the MS Office platform, with special attention to MS Word, MS Excel and
Outlook integration. Based upon this introductionary session, you will be
able to develop your own backoffice integration, irrespective of if you
want to accomplish real-time charting, mail merges or Outlook contact integration
into existing Xbase++ solutions. |

Now that Visual Xbase++ is going to become
available, Andreas Herdt wants to take the opportunity to give you an overview
about the capabilities of this powerful and productive development environment.
He shares with you his best practice knowledge to make your daily work more
productive.
Attendees will get a complete overview about how Visual Xbase++
can increase their productivity. Also, you will get a better understanding
about how easy it is to migrate your existing working environment over to
the Visual Xbase++ environment.

Window Architecture and Control |
| top |
This session will demonstrate
techniques for controlling dialog windows and their components. Includes
tips for effective multithreading, one of the most powerful features of
Xbase++. It will remove the mystery and allow the developer to
have complete mastery over what can be a complex and baffling subject. This
is a must for anyone new to Xbase++ programming. Source code
samples will be available. |

Developing an Architecture for Web-Based Applications |
| top |
This session is aimed at Xbase++ programmers who wish to understand
how to develop a Web/Application-server, using Xb2.Net and eXpress++.
The session shows how to:
- Build an architecture that allows for rapid development.
- Develop improved debugging techniques.
- Use session management to simplify code and add flexibility.
- Create dynamic-HTML using the eXpress++ method.
- Create a SOAP client to administer the website.
- Add HTTPS (secure socket) support.
- Several customers applications will be demonstrated as practical examples.

Using eXpress++ for Migration Projects |
| top |
This session is aimed at Xbase++
programmers who want to learn how to convert text-based applications to
GUI using eXpress++, an extension to the Xbase++ language that
cuts development time and code size dramatically.
The first half of this seminar is dedicated to introducing Xbase++
programmers to the eXpress++ method. The second half of the seminar is dedicated
to introducing existing eXpress++ users still using earlier versions to
the many new features and improvements which have been added in version
1.8. |

Boris Borzic,
Borzic Consulting |
| Friday, 12th. Nov.,
2004 |
SQLExpress |
| top |
SQLExpress is an object-oriented library for
Xbase++ that provides easy connectivity to a variety of SQL and
ODBC data sources. The SQLExpress session will cover the following topics:
differences between DBF and SQL programming, migration paths from DBF to
SQL, how to connect to an ODBC datasource and a brief discussion of cursor
types and database concurrency. A sample commercial application using SQLExpress
will also be presented. |

Xb2.NET |
| top |
This is a complete object-oriented sockets library
that provides a protocol-independent base for developing virtually any kind
of communications software. The library also includes a native Xbase++
HTTP and SOAP server.
There is no need to configure, manage and support complex 3rd
party web servers, gateways and CGI scripts because Xb2.NET makes your Xbase++
application the web server. During the Xb2.NET session, you will learn how
easy it is to write your own HTTP and SOAP server, how to implement HTTP
session management, connecting through a proxy, creating certificates and
using SSL/TLS for client as well as server applications.

The XODC is a web site dedicated to hosting
openSource projects. It is not yet fully functional, as some of the code
required for adding and administering projects is still being written. Each
project gets its own source repository, a mailing-list to keep members in
contact, and a newsgroup for user support. Take a look:
