Mission
critical applications developed with Xbase++ are using
an innovative technology from Alaska Software to abstract the application
from the underlying database management system. The Alaska ADS-DatabaseEngine
makes use of this unique technology to give Xbase++ developers
transparent access to the Advantage Database Server. This way Xbase++
applications can instantly become Client/Server Applications using
state of the art technology.
Dynamic
DBMS usage
Using Alaska Software's innovative DatabaseEngine Technology, the
ADS-DatabaseEngine can be loaded at application runtime to access
an Advantage Database Server. This results in a freedom of choice.
The developer can decide to deploy applications supporting Clipper
compatible DBF/NTX tables or Client/Server databases managed by
the Advantage Database Server.
Remote
and local data
You can load as many different DatabaseEngines in your application
as you want. In addition, you can mix feature sets of different
DatabaseEngines to dynamically build your own DatabaseEngine at
runtime. For example, you can use the ADS-DatabaseEngine for network
data and the FOXDBE of Alaska Xbase++ to run local queries simultaneously.
Transaction
processing and session support
The ADS-DatabaseEngine contains parts of the forthcoming Data Access
Chain (DAC) technology of Alaska Software. With DAC technology you
have access to Client/Server features like session management and
user authentication, transaction processing, and local support in
form of codepages and collation table setup.
